No Theocrat...

Hugh Hewitt owes Mike Huckabee an apology.

Instead of quoting from an AP release of the story that sensationalized one aspect of a 12 page article in which he was first baited into commenting on whether Mormonism is a cult or religion (Huckabee answers, "religion") he (Hugh Hewitt) should have done due diligence...

Mike Huckabee was asked a direct question about Mormonism as a religion. His answer follows the reporter's question. And the reporter classifies the tone of voice that Huckabee uses as "innocent."

Huckabee is NOT using the opportunity to invoke Mitt Romney. IN FACT the article notes that Mike Huckabee does not invoke Mitt Romney's name the entire time the discussion is being had.

The entire NYTimes piece can be read here...

Liberal PREACHER in CHIEF
HUCK is a Liberal in a Preachers cloak
he wants to become PREACHER IN CHIEF

he was PRO Amnesty
he was PRO illegal rights over citizen rights
he was PRO criminals
he taxed everything he could see
education at the bottom of the heap in ARK

ZERO international or executive experience other than preaching

We tried it 3 times and we still have legal abortions:
Reagan
Bush I
Bush II

and the Evangelicals, extreme right wing single issue bible belt so called "intollerant Christians" gave us 8 years of the Clintoons
and will give us * more years of the evil clintoons.

Hillary will wipe the floor with HUCK
he has a landfill full of skeletons for her to trot out

Okay
Now that we have the article which has been positioned by the press as an attack in the Mormon Faith it is obvious this is a Huck puff piece.

His "innocent" recitation of one of the discredited Mantra's of the Anti Mormon Spin Machine is unfortunate but this article is not an attempt to make a frontal assault on the Mormon Faith.

Maybe I do owe Huck an apology. However, also want to know if he has shown or promoted the God Makers or any of John Ankerberg's material in the past.

Kevin and Hugh on the outs?
It seems like you and Hewitt have some problem going on. You recently included a whine about him saying people shouldn't dislike Romney's speech, now you're calling him out about his comments on Huckabee...wouldn't it be better to come up with your own topics, rather than reading Hewitt and then making him the topic?

Mike Huckabee will sink the GOP
and has given evangelicals a bad name.

He may not invoke Mitt Romney's name in the article but that is what Krauthammer was talking about "egregious subtlety".

Gosh I thought Mike Huckabee was just bad for the GOP but he is also bad for evangelicals and for America.

This kind of dirty politics smells like Dick Morris. This is so un-American, it's like being in the Middle East where religious bigotry is pandered to.

I'm an agnostic but I will say "God help us from Mike Huckabee".

Kevin owes Hugh the apology
"I was about to jot down this piece of boilerplate when Huckabee surprised me with a question of his own: ‘‘Don’t Mormons,’’ he asked in an innocent voice, ‘‘believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?’’

Kevin, can you possibly ignore the crux of the Huckster's comments! Innocent???? If Huckabee is truly this stupid and innocent, he certainly is not qualified to be president. I for one, don't believe for a second that Huckabee asked his pointed question in innocence.

As Chuck Todd said...
Huckabee said it with a wink and a nod.
kmtierney writes: Wednesday, December, 12, 2007 1:00 PM
How is the context clearing?
Who cares if he asked the question "innocently" Why didn't he just say "I don't know anything about Mormonism, and that really isn't the point. This is about politics, not religion."

If he says that, he gets a round of applause from me. Asking that question is a clear attempt to act innocent, but then harnessing the bigotry machine.

Huckabee is a former governor. He should know how his words will be impacted.

The Evil Gomer Pyle...
Under this Golly-Gee/Gomer Pyle facade lies one evil man. This is the same bigot who, via a non answer, insinuated that Mormonism is a cult.

If Hucklebee is nominated, it is the end of the GOP. He would get trounced by EVERY single Dem including Kucinich.

He'd be cartoonized as a tax-raising, criminal-coddling, bible thumping hillybilly.

Thanks, Kevin
Kevin,
Thank you so much for keeping us informed on the truth of what is going on with this matter. Lately, it seems like if I want to get past all the spin, I come to your blog. Thank you for the great job you do.

Whatever the intention
Whatever the intention of Mike Huckabee, he stated the truth when he said that Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers. Check out this website: http://www.allaboutcults.org/what-do-mormons-believe.htm

"What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of Jesus Christ
The Mormon church views Jesus and Satan as spirit brothers and sons of God. God put forth His plan of salvation for the world, and Satan proposed his own plan. Jesus accepted the Father's plan and offered to implement it as the Savior. The Father chose Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus was given a body through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity. The character and life of Jesus is attainable by anyone who performs at such a righteous level. The Christian church teaches that Jesus Christ has existed eternally as the Son of God, the second "person" of the Trinity. Jesus took on human flesh about 2000 years ago and was born into the world through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross for our sins, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity."

swimmerkennedy...if Huckabee
is the GOP nominee...

It means he would have by that point beat your guy in the race that they were "supposed" to win too!

A Bridge to Sell You
If you believe Huckabee doesn't know about LDS, let's talk about a bridge and what you're willing to pay for it. Also, there is no way I can vote for a guy who eats at TGI Fridays and the Olive Garden. Uggh. I prefer food freshly prepared, not just heated up. That is my new barometer. Certain evangelicals can't vote for a person of differing faith, well I can't vote for a person with no taste in restaurants.
doctaz writes: Wednesday, December, 12, 2007 3:55 PM
Um, swimmerkennedy...
Mormonism is a cult-- check out this website:
http://www.allaboutcults.org/what-do-mormons-believe.htm

As far as him being criminal-coddling, he allowed 16 on death row to be executed. I don't call that criminal-coddling. You need to start looking at the whole picture, which you obviously don't care about.
minjae writes: Wednesday, December, 12, 2007 5:24 PM
Just 'cause someone says it . . .
doesn't make it true.

By the way, doctaz, what, precisely, is YOUR definition of a cult? Anyone who doesn't interpret the Bible exactly the same way you?

There are a number or definitions in the dictionary that I use, I wonder which one you are using in this context.
TR-Racer writes: Thursday, December, 13, 2007 12:39 PM
Kevin "quoting" out of context
Kevin tries to say that Huck answered "religion" to the question of cult v. religion. That is NOT what Huck said. Huck quailified his statement by saying "I think it’s a religion". That is not an affirmative statement to the question. It's more akin to what that other former resident of Hope said. "What is the meaning of is".

Of course as has been pointed out Huck delvered the keynote speech to th SBC when they intentionally held their anual meting in Salt Lake. To think that Huck has not rad and studied Anti-Mormon tracts is disengious.

Does anyone know if there is a copy of his Keynote speech from that conference around? That would probably be interesting to read in light of current events.
