On November 19th, I said this:

Barack Obama is likely to run for president in 2008 and speaking from the pulpit of one of America's most well known evangelical churches is likely to be footage that could be used over and over in trying to dissuade Christians from thinking about moral issues that real Christians truly feel concern for.

It should also be noted that Rick Warren knows better. Both he and his wife Kay have appeared on my broadcast in days gone by. Through some of our combined efforts with World Vision, my radio listeners have raised literally millions of dollars towards the AIDS crisis in Africa. And the truth be told, evangelicals in North America contribute more monies towards the very issue Warren professes worry over than the whole of Barack Obama's liberal friends combined.

There is definitely something for Barack Obama to gain by appearing in Rick Warren's pulpit - the implied endorsement and blessing for the 2008 presidential race. There is definitely something for Rick Warren to gain in promoting Barack Obama and giving him time behind the altar of God's word - power and access to a future heavyweight contender for the highest office in the land.

Today the Chicago Tribune says this:

Sen. Barack Obama, a pro-abortion rights Democrat contemplating a presidential run, on Friday received a warm embrace from one of America's best-known evangelical pastors and an enthusiastic ovation from a national gathering of church leaders not traditionally welcoming of liberal social views.

Obama delivered a speech rich in references to Christian faith, moral imperative and common purpose, urging churches to join with allies among the secular to fight the spread of AIDS and other social ills.

And this:

"My Bible tells me that when God sent his only Son to Earth, it was to heal the sick and comfort the weary," Obama said.

Tim Morgan, deputy managing editor for Christianity Today, who watched the speech, said Obama spoke about his faith with a natural ease that resonated with the audience.

"He almost speaks here like a pastor. The amazing thing is he does it so well," Morgan said. "That's why he gets a standing ovation from an ardently, ardently pro-life audience."

Several church leaders in attendance said they came away with a favorable impression.

"You can tell he has a Christian perspective….Caring for people is the no. 1 thing about being a Christian," said John Smith, senior pastor of Crossroads Church in Loveland, Colo. "It didn't feel like he was politicking. It felt like he was a person of faith, and he felt comfortable talking about that."

This time... I wish I had been wrong... but I wasn't!

You can just tell
I'm embarrassed that such a naive pastor comes from my state! "You can tell he has a Christian perspective?" Oh, yeah, that perspective comes shining through when one learns of Obama's record in support of infanticide - a real Christian perspective, that.

"It didn't feel like he was politicking" Here's a clue - if a politician is any good at all, you never feel his hand slip the wallet from your pocket, Pastor Smith.

I am sure Obama is a person of faith - but faith in what?

You pointed out the obvious, Kevin
Yes, politicians go to Church sometimes to gain publicity. Warren certainly doesn't mind gaining publicity so I don't see how prophetic your statements are. The people in Warren's congregation can fall for a lapsed Christian like Obama, who obviously doesn't hold innocent lives sacred unless it involves him personally, if they want to. Unfortunately many churches and pastors are wayward and afraid to stick to the Bible.
The fun will begin when some of the members wake up and notice what's going on and leave in mass. Obama will let them down eventually OR the Christians will notice that, "Hey! Abortion?! What the heck were we thinking?!".

obama speaking skills v Christianity
Several years ago my husband and I were watching Jesse Jackson on television and I remarked that he was really a good speaker. My husband replied, "so was Adolph Hitler."

I'm not comparing either Jackson or Obama to Hitler in any sense other than speaking skills, but think about it for a minute. Obama is managing to convince even evangelical pastors that his motives are Christian, yet they know he supports cruelly murdering a full term baby via partial or live birth abortion. If pastors can be so deceived, what about the rest of the voting public?

Obama's Faith
Barack is a member of the United Church of Christ http://www.UCC.org The UCC touts itself as a denomination where there are "testimonies of faith, but not tests of faith" in Jesus Christ. Consequently among mainline denominations, it's one of the most liberal. In July 2005, the UCC's General Synod (which "speaks to, but not for the local churches of the UCC") endorsed same-sex marriage. Most UCC people take the bible "seriously, but not literally." You can see where that takes you!

Kevin's original column wasn't entirely upfront--he failed to give the context for Barack speaking at Warren's church, giving the impression he was speaking in a Sunday worship service, when was actually speaking at an AIDS conference. There's a difference between a worship service and a conference.

But I kept following Kevin's view on this story and his remark in Told You So Part 1 is right on the money. Wish Kevin said it sooner in his critique of Obama.

Obama's 2008 run
but will the liberals really let him? They claim he is inexperienced - and Hillary wants a shot too.

The beast and the prophet
It does not matter if it was a conference or a worship service. Warren and any professing "Christian" should not have that kind of fellowship with a murder. Although Obama does not "murder" the babies himself (that we know of) he is in FACT a partaker in the KILLLING.
Jesus Christ came to save sinners and He did that by His death! Jesus did not come to be just an example in doing good.
The Gospel message is "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: 1 Cor. 15:3,4.
With the shed blood of Jesus there is NO salvation or HOPE.
Obama is just using Scripture like Satan did when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. If you don't use ALL OF GOD'S WORD you are deceiving the people.
I wrote a comment in a earlier column which I stated that Obama and Warren look like "the beast and his prophet." Warren is a all inclusive preacher. "can't we all just get along. So you have faith in what you believe. Well I just happen to believe in god." I used the small g because I wonder what "god" Warren really believes in. I have yet to hear him give the true Gospel or mention Jesus Christ in biblical context. (I guess he doesn't want to offend anybody. Might lose book sales. I have never trusted Warren and/or his purpose driven goal.
Jesus told us that there will be false prophets in the last days.
You have to look at from this point of view- "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." 2 Tim.4:3,4. Ant there is-- "Having a form of godliness, but denying the power therof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." 2 Tim.3:5,6,7.
Ane then there is -- "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: forwhat fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteiosness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" You can look that one up for your self. STUDY STUDY STUDY. That is the problem with "christians" today. They don't study for themselves. I should say MOST don't study for themselves.
I think "just john" fits into this category. I don't say this to be cruel but in the hopes he would study for himself. I firmly believe you are wrong!!!!!!!!!!
